DHA physiotherapist exam: the ten content areas, and how radiographer, laboratory and respiratory titles compare

Short answer: DHA’s CBT Guideline lists ten content areas for the Physiotherapist exam, which is 150 questions in three hours with a 50 percent pass score. Physiotherapy Technician lists the same ten. DHA prints no weights, and Meddex has no allied health question bank, so use the list to plan your own revision.

What is on the DHA physiotherapist exam?

DHA lists ten content areas for the Physiotherapist title (code PHY5121). Physiotherapy Technician (PHY4011) lists the same ten. Both are in the allied health group, which has 47 titles in the guideline we counted. DHA gives headings and no weights. Meddex is independent and is not connected to the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) or Prometric.

Key facts and where they come from

From DHA’s CBT Guideline, cover reads “Updated - Sep 2026”, read 16 and 18 October 2026.

  • Physiotherapist: 150 questions, 3 hours, pass score 50 percent, ten areas, no weights.
  • Physiotherapy Technician: 150 questions, 3 hours, pass score 50 percent, the same ten areas.
  • Radiographer: 150 questions, 3 hours, 55 percent. Medical Laboratory Technologist: 150 questions, 3 hours, 50 percent. Respiratory Therapist: 150 questions, 3 hours, 60 percent.
  • The stated duration includes registration and introduction time.

The ten areas in plain words

The headings are DHA’s. The notes are ours.

  • Kinesiology, Biomechanics and Ergonomics: movement, joint mechanics and work posture.
  • Anatomy and Physiology: the base for everything else.
  • Clinical Decision Making and Differential Diagnosis: choosing what to do and ruling conditions in or out.
  • Physical Therapy in Special Population (OBGYN, Pediatrics, Geriatrics): adapting care for pregnancy, children and older people.
  • Cardiopulmonary Physical Therapy: breathing and heart conditions, and their rehabilitation.
  • Physical Agents (Electrotherapy and Hydrotherapy): heat, cold, electrical and water-based treatments, and their precautions.
  • Sports Physical Therapy: injury, return to play and prevention.
  • Therapeutic Exercises and Techniques: prescribing and progressing exercise.
  • Neurorehabilitation: stroke, spinal injury and other neurological conditions.
  • Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation: fractures, joint and soft tissue problems.

A way to order your revision

DHA gives no order, so this is ours. Start with anatomy and physiology and kinesiology, since every other area uses them. Then take the three large clinical areas (musculoskeletal, neurological, cardiopulmonary), then the special population area, then physical agents and sports, and finish with decision making across all of them. The allied health six-week plan shows a way to turn a coverage list into weeks, and revising for the DHA exam as an allied health professional adds general advice.

How do other allied titles compare?

Radiographer lists eleven headings, including Radiation Protection, X-ray and CT, Ultrasound and MRI, and Patient Management. Medical Laboratory Technologist lists nine, including Blood Bank, Microbiology, Clinical Chemistry, Hematology and Immunology and Serology. Respiratory Therapist lists eleven, including Mechanical Ventilation, Airway Patency and Care, and Infection Control. These counts come from our hand-cleaned copy of the guideline, and the two-column layout can make them off by one. The three have a guide of their own: DHA radiographer, laboratory and respiratory exams side by side.

Across the allied titles some headings repeat. Infection control appears in 17 of 47, and ethics or professionalism in 22, so one set of notes on those areas can serve many titles.

What practice content is there?

Meddex does not have a question bank for physiotherapy or the other allied titles as of the date of this page. Use the allied health hub for the official facts and check the app’s current coverage before you rely on it. Do not use practice content from another profession as a substitute for your own areas. For the rows of every title, see DHA exam format and pass mark by title.

How should you revise physical agents and special populations?

For physical agents, build one line per modality: what it is for, what it must not be used on, and the precautions. Contraindications are a natural source of exam questions, because they test safety judgement. For special populations, make one list per group (pregnancy, children, older people) of what changes in assessment, dose and risk. These two headings are short lists that reward clear notes, and they can be revised in a few sittings if you start early.
