DHA exam for a registered nurse, assistant nurse and midwife compared: codes, pass scores and content areas

Short answer: DHA lists separate exams for a Registered Nurse, Assistant Nurse and Registered Midwife, each with 150 questions in three hours and a 50 percent pass score. The nurse titles share four content areas. The midwife exam has nine, so a midwife should not prepare from a nurse list alone.

Is the midwife exam the same as the nurse exam?

No. DHA’s CBT Guideline gives the Registered Midwife its own code, MID5104, and its own list of nine content areas. The Registered Nurse (RNT0312) and Assistant Nurse (ARN5061) are different titles that share one list of four. Many websites treat all three as one exam, which is a reason to read the guideline row for your own title before you buy any course. Meddex is independent and is not connected to the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) or Prometric.

Key facts and where they come from

All are from DHA’s CBT Guideline, cover reads “Updated - Sep 2026”, read on 15 and 16 October 2026, unless stated.

  • Registered Nurse, RNT0312: 150 questions, 3 hours, pass score 50 percent.
  • Assistant Nurse, ARN5061: 150 questions, 3 hours, pass score 50 percent.
  • Registered Midwife, MID5104: 150 questions, 3 hours, pass score 50 percent.
  • Assistant Midwife (listed In-active), MID5101: 150 questions, 3 hours, pass score 45 percent.
  • Registered Nurse needs a bachelor’s degree in nursing of at least three years; Assistant Nurse needs a diploma of not less than 18 months. Source: PQR table 14, read 16 October 2026.
  • The stated duration includes registration and introduction time. DHA can change content, format or pass score without updating the guideline.

What are the four nurse content areas?

For the Registered Nurse, DHA lists Unit Management and Leadership, Fundamentals, Maternal-Child Nursing and Adult Nursing. The Assistant Nurse lists the same four. DHA prints no weights, so you cannot tell how many questions each area carries, and we do not guess.

The guideline’s reference list for these titles includes books on pharmacology, nutrition, ethics, fundamentals, health assessment, medical-surgical, maternal-newborn, paediatric, critical care, psychiatric and community health nursing, plus an item called Nursing Technician Blueprint. Our DHA exam syllabus for nurses turns the four areas into a study list.

What are the nine midwife content areas?

For the Registered Midwife, DHA lists Antenatal Care, Intrapartum Care, Ethics and Legal Issues, Antepartum Care, Postpartum Care, Newborn Care, Gynecological Care, Pharmacology in Midwifery, and Counseling and Education. The inactive Assistant Midwife title lists the same nine.

Note that antenatal and antepartum both appear, as DHA prints them. We do not know how DHA separates them, so cover pregnancy care across the full range, from booking to complications, and do not rely on a guess about the split.

A study order for midwives

DHA gives no order, no weights and no sample items, so this order is ours. It starts with the areas that every other area depends on.

  1. Ethics and Legal Issues, and Counseling and Education: short, shared across your practice, and good for building the habit of reading a stem for what is asked.
  2. Antenatal and Antepartum Care: normal pregnancy first, then complications and screening.
  3. Intrapartum Care: stages of labour, monitoring, emergencies.
  4. Postpartum and Newborn Care: bleeding, infection, feeding, the first day of life.
  5. Gynecological Care and Pharmacology in Midwifery: the areas where a dose or an interaction can be the point of the question.
  6. Timed mixed sets across all nine, and a full 150-question mock in the last two weeks.

What does practice content cover for each title?

Meddex’s nurse practice content is built around nursing domains, not around the midwife list, so a midwife should check the app’s current coverage before relying on it. The maternal and newborn nursing guide covers topics that overlap, and the nurse hub page lists the official facts for all four titles. A midwife-specific question bank is not something we state exists.
