Ethics, consent and confidentiality: a DHA exam guide

Short answer: Ethics questions reward four ideas: respect the patient’s choices, keep their information private, put safety first and act within your role and local law. When two answers look reasonable, choose the one that protects the patient and follows the proper process.

Valid consent is informed, voluntary and given by someone with capacity. The clinician explains the benefits, risks and alternatives in words the patient understands.

If a patient refuses a treatment and has capacity, you respect that decision and keep caring for them.

Confidentiality

Patient information is shared only with those who need it for care, or when the law requires it. Do not discuss patients in public areas or on personal messaging apps.

Duty to report and escalate

If you see unsafe practice or a risk to a patient, you report it through the proper channel. Questions often include a tempting shortcut, such as quietly fixing the problem. The safer answer follows the reporting process.

Local law and policy

Medical liability and professional rules in the UAE have their own details. Read the official guidance for your profession and use the principles above to reason through the questions.

Frequently asked questions

This article is general educational guidance, not official advice. Exam rules, fees and timelines are set by the Dubai Health Authority and the test provider and can change, so always confirm the latest details on their official channels.
